Since moving to Colorado from New York in 2001, I have sought to capture the elements that are ubiquitous to the western landscape through oil painting with an emphasis on the sky. I am interested in how we visually and emotionally experience the landscape. My paintings reflect a nostalgia of place and render a feeling of peace while trying not to sacrifice these greater truths for lesser details. Mindful of a contemporary expression, my earlier work focused on the elements of composition and value all within a square format. Often rendered with a muted high-key palette, I emphasized big shapes within a clear value
